They're Back!

Yes that's right. Our little bug friends, the cockroaches, have returned. For all of you who don't know the story...........The people living 2 apartments beneath us brought cockroaches from Florida with them when they moved in. About 3 months ago I spotted one in our apartment. There are lots of different species of cockroaches, these are called German cockroaches. This is what they look like................. They really don't grow all that big and they come out for food and water. And if you are imagining cockroaches all over in bed with us, and when we turn on the lights they scatter, think again. We would just see one or two, here and there. And I have only seen them in my kitchen and bathroom. We were told that if we kept our kitchen and bathroom really clean and dry they wouldn't come to our apartment because we weren't supplying them with what they needed. So the second I spotted that first cockroach I deep cleaned my kitchen. At night I would never leave dishes out to soak, I would sweep and remove all crumbs, and I would dry down the sink and counters. This consumed me. I seriously couldn't stand the thought of laying in bed and not knowing if they were out in my kitchen, and how many were out there. I did not do well with the idea of sharing our apartment with these little creatures. Keeping things clean and dry apparently worked because I haven't seen a cockroach for 2 1/2 months, that is until yesterday. What we think happened is when we cleaned up really good they went back down into the other apartments, because there was nothing for them in ours. But just recently both apartments underneath us moved out. So now those apartments are all cleaned up, and there is no one living there to run water or eat and leave crumbs. So where do the cockroaches come? Of course back up to our apartment. So again we have started sweeping every night before bed, and wiping down the sink and all counters. Some of you may do this anyway, and I like a clean house as much as the next person, but I must admit I don't always have all dishes done before bed every night, and I for sure don't sweep my kitchen floor every single night before bed. I guess I am going to have to start. My biggest worry is now that we are moving in about 6 weeks, I don't want to take them with us wherever we go. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to get rid of them, or how to make sure we don't take them with us, please let me know! Any suggestion will do.

Most likely you won't take them with you. I would start slowly packing and go through everything. There is stuff you can put down that is safe for your kids but I'll have to ask to make sure before I tell ya. They are big enough to see so that will help. They like cool dark places so keep things off the floor. But you got rid of them once. You can do it!! :)
And don't pull out the BB gun. We've tried that too, jk.

So gross- I hate bugs and that is one of the worst things about living in an apartment because they are so much harder to get rid of- Yuck! I don't know what to tell you though- we have a monthly service because if you don't here you get taken over by bugs!!

Ang,
Hey it is Janelle Taylor Belka. I somehow found your blog today! I was so excited! You have the most adorable little family. You are moving to Salt Lake? We will totally have to get together again. I haven't even met your hubby and I don't think you have met mine either. It would be so much fun to catch up on old times. Let me know what you think.
Love ya!

I can't believe that we found each other again. I am still so excited! Do you need any help when you move back up here? Where exactly are you going to live? I would love to plan a date night together. Angela you are so beautiful! Yes, that is Jill's baby Tanner. Isn't he adorable?! I am actually watching him for the weekend and I love it! I can't wait till I can be a mom! Your kids are so darling too!
